resident's night

last night was the annual resident's night and for the first time since clerkship, i was happy that i was on duty that night.

resident's night is a happy night for all of the house staff in the hospital. clerks, nurses, residents and consultants. not only for the night, but the weeks before resident's night. since most of the work done for props, dance choreography, script, production, etc. are made by clerks, the resident's are more lenient to us. meaning, no rounds, no shouting, no quizzes. however, this is only possible in surgery. in the other services, some clerks were harassed in doing the preparations. but for us, we had fun.

yesterday, we were all excused from duty to attend the resident's night. the medicine auditorium was packed. medicine had yellow shirts, pediatrics had red and surgery had blue. other services like derma, neuropsych, radiology, OB-Gyne, pathology, rehab med, ophtha, ENT and family med were just intermissions. mas intense ang labanan ng major services. everybody was shouting for their services and shouting back to the other services. i had so much fun. parang highschool ba. when the show started, everybody just became wild. medicine had the yellow jackets with them... which is really so unfair.. but in the end, pedia ended up winning first place, surgery second and medicine third(haha).

when we went back to the clerk's room(after 1 hour of picture taking at the auditorium), there was a catering service ready to feed us all care of the surgery residents. after eating, people started to dance. somebody bought alcohol. naging party na. we were dancing with residents! i was tipsy while monitoring patients. but i didn't care. masaya kasi.

when 6 am came, the chief resident announced that we were going to have a skeleton schedule until sunday. meaning, only duty clerks will go to work. i had 2 free days.

sana resident's night every month...
sana surgery na lang ako forever...
haayyyyy....

surgery

"50% of medicine is pure science. while the other 50% is just medical mumbo jumbo." - dr. renato reyes

this is what i learned from last saturday's reye's rounds. what a funny guy, even if he has scary mood swings.

today is our 3rd week in surgery. it's been such a relief to get out of ob-gyn. you can't help but compare the two services. the residents in surgery are so much nicer than in ob-gyn. baka kasi nga daw puro lalaki sa surgery. but still, the female surgery residents are super nice. why can't ob-gyn residents be that way? i don't know why they have to make their lives so stressful. especially, dr. clutario... so far, this is the first rotation that i really enjoyed being a clerk. i'm having doubts about taking up ob. i feel like taking up surgery =)
